Wow, it is such a relief to be finished with school and available for new things. I'm happy to have finalized three initial pieces for my demo reel and have ideas for the next projects to take on while I get out and look for jobs. I'm also now doing some music editing on the side for dance competitions, which is a fun new addition to my repertoire. This week I head back to my annual volunteer gig at Rain City Rock Camp. For those that don't know, it's a music oriented camp that focuses on empowering female identified and non-binary youth ages 8-16. Over the course of 5 days the kids get training on an instrument, form a band, write an ORIGINAL song, take tons of workshops on everything from music to body positivity and media literacy, and then they get to perform their brand new songs in front of a giant audience at the Crocodile on Saturday. It is a whirlwind of a week, and amazing things happen every single time. I'm only volunteering for one week this year, whereas I have in the past volunteered both weeks. I trade off between band coaching and vocal instruction/coaching, which is something I dearly love. Before the madness begins tomorrow, I'm off to the Capitol Hill Block Party to brave that particular madness in pursuit of catching Perfume Genius!! The new record is so fantastic. Also caught an amazing show with Wolf Alice at the Sunset on Saturday, so this week is extra full of great music. Whew!
